Savitribai Phule, a Dalit leader and BJP parliamentarian from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh quit the party today citing that the saffron party is trying to divide society among many reasons. Phule has been known for her sharp comments, criticised the party leadership. “The BJP government was trying to erase the history of Bahujan and minority and spending unnecessarily on building statues and temples, instead on development,” she said.

Phule’s announcement comes on the death anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar and the day when Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayohdha in 1992.

Referring to both, Phule said the VHP, the RSS and the BJP were trying to recreate the situation of 1992 and dividing society on communal lines. She was resigning in commemoration of the Masjid demolition, which “hurt the feelings of Muslims, Dalits and Backwards,”, as well as the ”parinirvan diwas” of Bhimrao Ambedkar.

“Instead of ensuring development, they are stoking fears of Hindu-Muslim, India- Pakistan, mandir-masjid, and spreading hate and destroying communal brotherhood,” Phule told the media at an event organised by the Namo Budhay Sewa Samiti on Dr. Ambedkar.

“I resigned because the RSS and the BJP are fully prepared to destroy the Constitution framed by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and nullify the reservation,” she said.

“MPs and ministers of the current government are spreading communal strife and dishonouring the constitution,” she said adding that she would continue as Member of Parliament but would have nothing to do with the BJP now.

She cited “threat to reservation, failure of the government to punish those involved in burning the Constitution and raising slogans against Baba Sahab in August” for her resignation. She said, “Some people want to run this country on the ‘Manusmriti‘, and don’t follow the Constitution”.

Phule promised to launch a campaign from December 23 for the implementation of the Constitution and for the rights of Dalits and OBCs.

After she announced her resignation from the saffron party, BJP and RSS supporters started fuming and vomiting venom against the Dalit Sadhvi on Social Media.

“BJP shud have long back taken out this thorn #SavitribaiPhule from its foot. This obnoxious woman seems to be too ambitious. She is another foul mouthed Mayawati calling high caste Hindus Manuwadi. Bcoz of Modi she was able to win LS seat when she switched her loyalty from BSP.” Krishna Pandey tweeted.

“#SavitribaiPhule. Thank God that this NPA herself resigned. Anyways, ppl like her were never a good fit for BJP. Don’t know why did @BJP4India even give this yuck it’s membership.” Another twitter user Kshatriya_Khand wrote on twitter.

“#SavitribaiPhule Political opportunism right before elections. People have cried hoarse claiming that BJP is biased, she agrees right before Lok Sabha elections.” Akshay SIngh tweeted.

“The MP who resigns at this point of time are those category of people Who after eating lunch at restaurant with friends and try to go or search washroom when Bill is to arrive, try to run away from paying…..” Jiteshkumar Sharma, a Twitter user and an obvious supporter of right wing ideology tweeted.
