BJP Leader Manoj Baitha SUV runs over 20 kids in Bihar, 9 dead others critically injured

This is the second major accident in Bihar this month. On February 19, 10 people were killed and 35 others were injured on the outskirts of Patna when a private bus carrying a marriage party overturned on the Patna-Gaya state highway.

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), February 25, 2018 (TMC Desk) Nine school kids were killed and about 20 injured when a speeding Bolero carrying nameplate of BJP leader Manoj Baitha, lost control and run over them outside a government school building on the outskirts of the city Saturday, police said.

The accident occurred under Minapur police station area, about 10 km from the district headquarters, when the school got over and the children were returning home.

“The incident took place at Ahiyapur-Jhapaha in Minapur police station area of the district where a Bolero ran over the children who were returning to their homes after the school was over,” Vivek Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarpur, told a news agency.

“All the injured, said to be around 20 in number, have been rushed to to the Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The condition of some of them was stated to be critical.” he said.

Rashtriya Janata Dal lawmaker from Minapur, Munna Yadav, who rushed to the spot after the mishap, alleged that the driver of the vehicle was “definitely inebriated.”

There has been no control on consumption of alcohol despite the state government’s claims of prohibition,” he said.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each of the families of the deceased. Two families lost two children each in the attack.
