
Former Governor of Bihar, Ram Nath Kovind has been elected the 14th president of India. He will succeed Pranab Mukherjee, the incumbent president of India. Kovind was the candidate for the NDA that consists of 47 parties has got about 65% defeating Meira Kumar from the UPA, an alliance of 17 parties (at least for this election).
PM Modi has congratulated him on becoming 14th president of India. “Congratulations to Shri Ram Kovind Ji on being elected the President of India! Best wishes for a fruitful & inspiring tenure.”, says Modi through his Twitter account. He also has congratulated Meira Kumar. “I also congratulate @meira kumar Ji for her campaign, which was in spirit of the democratic ethos & values we all are proud of.”, says his account.
Meira Kumar wished the president elect. “I congratulate Sh. Ram Nath Kovindji for becoming the President of India.” her social networking site’s account says. “My best wishes are with Sh. Kovindji as it has fallen upon him to uphold the Constitution in letter & spirit in these challenging times.”, further she says through her account.
Omar Abdullah, Mamata Banerjee, Dr. Kumar Vishwas, Sushil Kumar Modi and Nitish Kumar also followed PM Modi and Meira Kumar in congratulating him.
