Google honours Abdul Qawi Desnavi with its doodle

It is usual that Google celebrates a birthday often if not everyday with its finely designed image that is called doodle however it is rare that Google celebrates the birthday of a person across the globe together.

Google is celebrating 1 November the birthday of a great Urdu poet, author and bibliographer Abdul Qavi Desnavi. Desnavi is known for his huge contribution towards the enrichment of Urdu language.

Desnavi was born in village Desna, Bihar to the family of Muslim scholar Sulaiman Nadvi and got his primary education in Arrah town of Bihar state. He completed his Graduation and Post Graduation in First from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He joined Urdu department in Saifia Post Graduate College in February 1961. He became Professor and head of the Urdu department of Saifia College. He was a well known literary figure in India and in the Urdu world. After his retirement in 1990, he held many honorary positions.

Many scholars, poets and teachers of today were his students in Bhopal, and several other students obtained PhD degree under his guidance.

His important work was about Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Mirza Ghalib and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He was awarded with several awards for his literary work.

The doodle showed Desnavi sitting in the middle and writing. The letters of the search engine were also given a calligraphic touch.

Desnavi breathed his last on July 7, 2011 in Bhopal where he was living.
